Eric Fowler faced many obstacles after an accident had left him unable to walk under his own power for the past decade.
Among those challenges were multiple pressure wounds he experienced, including a stage 4 wound to his left trochanter, near where the femur connects with the hip bone. Stage 4 wounds can cause significant skin damage and bone can be visible, which was Fowler’s case. Wounds at this stage can be fatal.
Following an unfavorable wound care experience at another clinic, Fowler was referred to the Advanced Wound Center at Hillcrest South, led by medical director Ronald Brown, M.D., and many others on the team.
“The whole team was great to me,” Fowler said. “They all took time to get to know me and what was going on with me. Dr. Brown was straight forward with me, and he listened to me, too. That was important for me, especially with all I’ve been through.”
Thanks to his advanced wound care therapy, Fowler was discharged on May 10, 2022, wound free. And he’s appreciative for the care he received.
“You know, these last 10 years have been hell,” he said. “But after my last appointment, I gave the whole team a hug. They saved my life.”
