Fitness Apps for the New Year

Did you know that getting in shape can be as easy as downloading an app?

This time of year is a great time to focus on your health and wellness. Running, hiking, or taking a group class at the gym are great ways to get started. And, today’s technology provides plenty of apps to track your activity and diet to help guide you on your journey to better health. Here are a few popular (and free) fitness apps to try this year:

Nike + Training Club

The app is free for iOS and Android and has workouts tailored to your specific goal, like “Get Lean”, “Get Toned” or “Get Strong.” It offers yoga, pilates, nutritional advice and workouts created by trainers.

MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is free for iOS, Android and Windows phones, as well as online. It’s a calorie counter where you can set a daily calorie goal and record a log of your food and exercise for that day.

Pedometer ++

Pedometer ++ is a free app for iOS, however it requires an iPhone 5s, 6 or 6s. Although it is not available to Android or Windows, there are other similar apps. Pedometer ++ lets you keep track of your daily and weekly step counts.

Healthy Out

Healthy Out is a free app for iOS and Android. It gives you nutrition labels and healthy choices at your favorite restaurants to help support your physical activity. You can search by calories and points and nutrition tags such as “cuisines” and “healthy.”

Fitness Buddy

Fitness Buddy is free for iOS and Android and it provides you with a huge database of workouts. You can choose what exercises you want to do by the muscle group you want to target, as well as more than 85 workouts created by professionals.
