Hillcrest South's medical laboratory recently received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) after a rigorous on-site inspection. During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examine the laboratory's records and quality control procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record and overall management.
"Many an hour was spent on accreditation and inspection preparations," said Steve Rose, D.O., lab medical director. "The team deserves a massive thanks for all the work they do in a clinical role the patient never sees."
CAP Laboratory Accreditation helps labs maintain accuracy of test results, ensure accurate patient diagnoses, meet required standards from Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), FDA and OSHA, and manage changes in laboratory medicine and technology. The program is updated regularly to reflect changes on the front lines of laboratory medicine and technology, as well as the regulatory landscape.
Bob Bennett, lab services administrative director, says this accreditation is a testament to the hard work of all the lab staff.
"This is one of the finest labs I've been a part of in my 20-year laboratory career," said Bennett. "From the gentle hands of our phlebotomists to the testing by our skilled technicians and scientists, the dedication of our staff to national laboratory safety standards can be seen every day with the high-quality laboratory results we give to our nurses, providers and patients. I could not be prouder of the laboratory team we have here at Hillcrest South."
"Many thanks go to our Hillcrest South laboratory team," said Dr. Rose. "I appreciate all of their efforts and dedication to quick and quality laboratory results and high standards of safety and care."
